Traffic Cops Brace for Monsoon Traffic Jam in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: With the monsoon season fast approaching and sporadic unseasonal rains already causing disruptions, the Hyderabad traffic police are gearing up to manage the impending traffic challenges.

The city faces significant traffic slowdowns during monsoons, primarily due to waterlogging. Out of 183 identified waterlogging points, 65 are considered major. Heavy rains exacerbate even minor waterlogging points, causing widespread traffic disruptions.

“We have identified critical points and are initiating measures to mitigate public inconvenience by promptly clearing clogged water discharge points,” said Traffic DCP-1 L Subbarayudu to ‘Telangana Today’.

Senior officials of the traffic wing have been instructed to be on the roads to supervise traffic management during heavy rains. From senior officers to home guards, all traffic personnel will be deployed to manage and streamline traffic.

Special teams, comprising traffic home guards, constables, and head constables, have been formed to clear trash and obstacles at water discharge points. Equipped with sticks, crowbars, spades, and other tools, these teams aim to keep the roads clear during adverse weather conditions.

Traffic police officers are being provided with raincoats and boots to ensure they are fully equipped to handle the weather.

To keep citizens informed, the traffic police will provide updates on traffic slowdowns or jams through their dedicated social media accounts on Instagram, Facebook, and X. Live traffic updates will also be available on Google Maps, and information will be disseminated through news channels and websites.

Citizens are advised to follow traffic police guidance during the rainy season, as the suggestions are based on reports from various government agencies monitoring weather conditions.
