YS Sharmila takes charge as APCC president

YS Sharmila is the younger sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. Later addressing the Congress activists, she came down heavily on Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and former Chief Minister N Chandrabu Naidu for their failure in developing the state.

Vijayawada: YS Sharmila on Sunday took charge as Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President (APCC) at a programme held in a private function hall at the outskirts.

YS Sharmila is the younger sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. Later addressing the Congress activists, she came down heavily on Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and former Chief Minister N Chandrabu Naidu for their failure in developing the state.

“The YSRCP and TDP MPs surrendered to the BJP as they did not raise their voice demanding Special Category Status. Though the YSRCP has 22 Lok Sabha members and the TDP has 3 members they have never demanded for SCS,” she lashed out.

Launching an attack against Chief Minister Jagan Reddy and ex-chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for rendering the state without a capital city, she criticized that Naidu had shown capital city in graphics while Jagan Reddy embarrassed the people with the three capital concept. The government has also failed in completing the construction of Polavaram project across the river Godavari, she flayed.

She also pointed out that the metro rail project was not sanctioned to AP and no major industries had been set up during the last few years. The AP government has no money to pay government employees salaries, she said.

Taking a dig at her Chief Minister brother Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, she slammed that being a Christian, Jagan Reddy did not respond when Christians were attacked and Churches were burnt in Manipur state.
Ms.Sharmila claimed that Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and AICC President Maallikharjun Kharge reposed faith in her, and she would strive hard to strengthen the Congress in AP. Later Mangalagiri YSRCP MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy joined the Congress along with his followers in the presence of YS Sharmila.

Senior Congress leaders including outgoing APCC President Gidugu Rudraraju, former APCC presidents N Raghuveera Reddy, S Sailajanath, former Union Minister Pallam Raju and AICC secretary MD Meyyappan were among who were present.

Earlier, the police tried to divert the YS Sharmila’s convoy while they were entering the city from the airport in a rally. The irate Congress leaders squatted on the road in protest against the obstructing their convoy. However, the police allowed the convoy later.
