133 Kg of Sandalwood Seized in Kannur, Three Held

Forest officials on Tuesday seized 133 kilograms of sandalwood valued around Rs 20 lakh here and arrested three persons in this connection.

Kannur(Kerala): Forest officials on Tuesday seized 133 kilograms of sandalwood valued around Rs 20 lakh here and arrested three persons in this connection.

According to Thaliparamba range officer V Ratheesh, three persons Gopalakrishnan, Pradeep and Bineesh Kumar, all hailing from Vellora, were caught by the local residents at Perumbadavu when they came to smuggle the sandalwood from a plot in the early hours on Tuesday.

Local residents handed over them to the forest officials along with 17 kg of sandalwood. After interrogating them, forest officials conducted a raid at the house of the kingpin Nazeer of Mathamangalam and seized 116 kg of sandalwood from the house.
Forest officials also seized axes, swords, two motor bikes and other equipment from them.
