Shivamogga: Some miscreants allegedly buried approximately 150 dogs alive in a horrific event on Wednesday, according to police officials in the Shivamogga region of Karnataka,

The event occurred near Bhadravathi town in Ranganathapura, inside the boundaries of the Kambadaalalu-Hosur gram panchayat. According to preliminary findings, the event occurred on September 4th.

The canines were allegedly buried in the Tammadihalli woodland region by the miscreants. Locals who had been hearing dog barking on a regular basis got concerned when the sounds abruptly ceased.

The locals informed animal rights activists but the incident came to light only when the activists visited the spot. The case has been taken up by the Bhadravathi Rural police station but the reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.

A preliminary inquiry suggested that the contractor, who had taken up the tender for neutering (a surgical procedure that renders dogs incapable of reproducing) canines committed this act to save money.

According to police sources, this time the panchayat leadership gave oral orders to dog catchers. Previously, the dogs had been picked up and abandoned in remote locations. The canines were captured and buried alive inside the boundaries of Kambadaalalu-Hosur gram panchayat, according to the police.

Previously, 38 monkeys were discovered dead at a hamlet in the Hassan region of Karnataka. In August, they choked to death while being transported in gunny sacks to a wooded location. The event was immediately brought to the attention of the Karnataka High Court, which ordered the state government to take action against the perpetrators. So far, seven people have been arrested by the police. (IANS)
