Hyderabad Police Intensify Drunk Driving Checks Ahead of New Year, 304 Booked on Day One

Hyderabad Traffic Police have launched special drunk driving checks ahead of New Year celebrations. Over 304 people were caught on the first day as police intensified checks at 120 locations across the city.

In view of the upcoming New Year celebrations, the Hyderabad Traffic Police have launched special drunk and drive checks across the city. The special drive began on Wednesday and will continue till December 31, covering major roads and sensitive locations.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand / Sajjanar (as per official briefing) said that strict action will be taken against anyone found driving under the influence of alcohol.

304 Booked on First Day of Special Drive

On the first day of the special checks, police booked 304 motorists for drunk driving violations. All the vehicles involved were seized, and legal action was initiated against the offenders.

The police have set up checkpoints at 120 key locations across Hyderabad to ensure public safety during the festive season.

Strict Action and Heavy Penalties

According to the police:

  • Offenders will face a fine of up to ₹10,000
  • Jail term up to six months may be imposed
  • Vehicles involved will be seized
  • Repeat offenders will face stricter legal action

These measures are part of efforts to prevent road accidents and ensure safe celebrations.

Advisory for New Year Celebrations

The Hyderabad Police have issued clear instructions to the public:

  • Those visiting pubs or parties should arrange a designated driver
  • Alternatively, people are advised to use cabs or public transport
  • Do not drink and drive under any circumstances
  • Follow traffic rules to avoid inconvenience to others

The Commissioner emphasized that celebrations should not disturb public safety or endanger lives.

Police Aim to Ensure Safe New Year Celebrations

Officials stated that the intensified checks are meant to create awareness and reduce accidents during the festive period. The focus remains on road safety, public discipline, and zero tolerance towards drunk driving.
