Severe Cold Tightens Grip on Hyderabad, Telangana; Several Areas Record Single-Digit Temperatures

Cold wave–like conditions continue in Hyderabad and Telangana as temperatures drop to single digits. IMD Hyderabad forecasts below-normal minimum temperatures in the coming days.

Hyderabad and several districts across Telangana continue to experience cold wave–like conditions, with minimum temperatures falling into single digits at many locations. While the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad has not officially declared a cold wave alert for the city, weather forecasts indicate that the intensity of cold is likely to persist in the coming days.

IMD Forecast: Temperatures to Stay Below Normal

According to the IMD Hyderabad, minimum temperatures in isolated pockets of Telangana may remain 3 to 4 degrees Celsius below normal. The department has forecast that night temperatures across Hyderabad and most districts will hover between 11°C and 15°C over the next few days.

In its five-day outlook, the IMD said that until Friday, January 2, several districts are expected to continue recording similar low night temperatures, suggesting no immediate relief from the cold spell.

Single-Digit Temperatures Raise Concern

Independent weather watchers and climate observers in Hyderabad have pointed out that cold wave–like conditions have prevailed for nearly 25 consecutive days across Telangana. Though no official cold wave has been announced statewide, residents report biting cold winds, especially during evenings and early mornings.

According to Hyderabad-based weather tracker Raj, known on social media as Hyderabadians, many parts of the city are still recording minimum temperatures below 10°C, indicating an unusually harsh winter phase.

The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for forest and northern districts including Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Kamareddy, Medak, Mancherial, Nirmal, and Sangareddy, warning of sharp temperature drops.

A Yellow Alert has been issued for Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Nizamabad, Warangal, Siddipet, Mahabubnagar, and several other districts, advising residents to remain cautious.

Citizens Advised to Take Precautions

Meteorologists have advised people, especially children, elderly citizens, and those with health conditions, to take adequate precautions as night temperatures are expected to remain 2–3 degrees below normal. Dry weather conditions are likely to prevail over the next two days, accompanied by cold winds after sunset.

With winter tightening its grip, Telangana residents are bracing for colder nights ahead as the state witnesses one of its coldest winter phases in recent years.
