Kudumbashree Model to Guide Telangana’s Plan
Minister Seethakka said the new scheme is being formulated based on the successful Kudumbashree initiative implemented in Kerala, where a large number of families were identified through surveys and helped move out of poverty.
In Telangana, a statewide survey will be conducted through women self-help groups (SHGs) to accurately identify families facing extreme economic hardship.
Survey Through Women Self-Help Groups
Highlighting the role of women, the minister said women SHGs will play a central role in the identification process. These groups are already being strengthened across the state, making them well-positioned to carry out household-level surveys.
Key features of the survey:
- Identification of the poorest families
- Data collection through women SHGs
- Needs-based assessment for each household
Need-Based Support for Every Family
After the survey, assistance will be provided according to the specific needs of each family, Seethakka said. She clarified that the government is prepared to move ahead even if it involves a financial burden, underlining the administration’s commitment to poverty eradication.
Support will be mobilised from multiple sources, including:
- Government funding
- Donors and philanthropists
- Voluntary and social organisations
- Community contributors (Srimanthus)
Guidelines to Be Issued Soon
Minister Seethakka said detailed guidelines for the scheme will be finalised shortly, after which the programme will be implemented across Telangana. The focus will remain on sustainable livelihoods, empowerment of women, and long-term economic stability for vulnerable families.
Aim: Poverty-Free Telangana
Reiterating the government’s vision, Seethakka said the ultimate aim is to eliminate poverty in Telangana through a structured, inclusive, and community-driven approach modeled on proven success.
