As part of the crackdown, six (06) criminal cases were registered over the past week, and multiple vehicles were identified and seized. Officials warned that such violations contravene the Motor Vehicles Act and other relevant legal provisions and reiterated a Zero Tolerance policy against fraudulent registration plates.

Hyderabad Traffic Police Intensify Drive Against Fake Number Plates

According to a press note issued on July 31, 2026, the Hyderabad Traffic Police launched the special drive after witnessing a rise in complaints regarding fake number plates.

Officials stated that the use of fake, tampered, or unauthorized registration number plates is a violation of the Motor Vehicles Act and other applicable legal provisions.

Six Criminal Cases Registered, Vehicles Seized

As part of the ongoing enforcement drive:

  • Six (06) criminal cases were registered during the past week.
  • Multiple vehicles using fraudulent registration plates were identified.
  • The vehicles were seized by the police.

According to the police, fake registration plates were allegedly being used to:

  • Conceal vehicle identities
  • Evade traffic enforcement
  • Violate traffic regulations

Cases Registered Across Six Police Station Jurisdictions

The criminal cases were registered under various Law & Order Police Stations in the following jurisdictions:

  • Sultan Bazar Police Station
  • Mehdipatnam Police Station
  • Bahadurpura Police Station
  • Peddapalli Police Station (Ramagundam)
  • Medipally Police Station (Malkajgiri)
  • Kattangur Police Station (Nalgonda)

The Hyderabad Traffic Police clarified that only government-approved High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are legally permitted.

Officials stated that the following are strictly illegal:

  • Custom alterations to number plates
  • Missing digits
  • Temporary stickers used as registration plates

Hyderabad Traffic Police Issue Zero Tolerance Warning

The Hyderabad Traffic Police reiterated their Zero Tolerance policy towards fraudulent vehicle registration practices.

Citizens were warned that using fake or manipulated registration plates would result in:

  • Severe legal consequences
  • Criminal prosecution
  • Immediate seizure of the vehicle

The department also appealed to all vehicle owners to strictly comply with prescribed number plate norms and traffic regulations.
