GHMC Reorganisation: Telangana Govt Notifies Cyberabad, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporations

Telangana Government issues official notification to reorganise GHMC into Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation with immediate effect.

Hyderabad: In a major administrative reform, the Government of Telangana has officially announced the reorganisation of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) by constituting three separate municipal corporations. The move aims to improve urban governance and administrative efficiency across the expanding Hyderabad metropolitan region.

The decision was notified through G.O.Ms.No.55 dated February 11, 2026, under the Metropolitan Area & Urban Development (GHMC-1) Department, and has come into force with immediate effect.

GHMC Split Into Three Municipal Corporations

As per the latest notification issued under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act, 1955, the existing GHMC has been reorganised into the following three civic bodies:

1. Cyberabad Municipal Corporation

This newly formed municipal corporation will include the following zones:

  • Serilingampally
  • Kukatpally
  • Qutbullapur

These areas together form the rapidly growing IT and residential corridor commonly referred to as Cyberabad.

2. Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation

The Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation will consist of:

  • Malkajgiri
  • Uppal
  • L.B. Nagar

These zones cover a large part of eastern and northeastern Hyderabad, which has seen significant population growth in recent years.

3. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC)

The remaining zones will continue under the name Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, covering:

  • Shamshabad
  • Rajendranagar
  • Charminar
  • Golconda
  • Khairatabad
  • Secunderabad

This corporation will retain the historic and central parts of Hyderabad city.

  • Each of the three municipal corporations will function as a separate body corporate
  • They will have perpetual succession and a common seal
  • All corporations will operate under the provisions of the GHMC Act, 1955
  • The Commissioner of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has been directed to take necessary follow-up action

Why the GHMC Reorganisation Matters

According to the government, the reorganisation was carried out after carefully examining the administrative challenges arising from Hyderabad’s rapid expansion. By creating smaller municipal corporations, the state aims to:

  • Improve civic administration
  • Ensure faster service delivery
  • Strengthen local governance
  • Better manage infrastructure and urban planning

Immediate Implementation

The notification clearly states that the order comes into force with immediate effect, and the restructured municipal setup will soon begin functioning independently.

This landmark decision by the Government of Telangana marks a new chapter in Hyderabad’s urban governance, with the formation of Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation, and a reorganised GHMC expected to bring administration closer to the people.
