Telangana to Become Clean Energy Model: Sridhar Babu Launches ₹700 Crore Bio-Gas Project in Siddipet

Telangana aims to become a clean energy model as Sridhar Babu launches ₹700 crore CBG project in Narmetta, Siddipet. Project to create 1,400 jobs.

Telangana is aiming to become a national model in clean energy, said D. Sridhar Babu while addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of a ₹700 crore compressed biogas (CBG) project at Narmetta on Sunday.

The project is being developed by Juno Joule Biofuels Pvt. Ltd. and is expected to play a key role in promoting sustainable energy, rural development, and employment generation.

₹700 Crore CBG Project to Generate Jobs and Boost Rural Economy

The Telangana clean energy initiative will:

  • Create around 1,400 direct jobs
  • Ensure nearly 30% women participation in workforce
  • Promote rural livelihoods and industrial decentralisation

The Minister highlighted that the government is focusing on a circular economy, combining industrial growth with environmental sustainability.

Reducing India’s Dependence on Imported Energy

D. Sridhar Babu pointed out that:

  • India imports nearly 90% of crude oil
  • Around 60% of LPG consumption is imported

He stressed that clean energy projects like CBG plants are essential to reduce dependence on foreign energy sources and strengthen India’s energy security.

Farmers to Become Energy Producers

Calling the project a “paradigm shift”, the Minister said farmers can now transition from:

  • Food providers → Energy providers

The CBG plant will use:

  • Paddy straw
  • Cattle dung
  • Poultry waste

to produce biofuel gas, turning agricultural waste into valuable energy.

Cluster Model with 10 Plants Planned

The project will be implemented in a cluster model in three phases, including:

  • 10 plants
  • 100 tonnes per day capacity per plant

This model aims to create large-scale clean energy production hubs in rural Telangana.
