Telangana Pushes to Become a Sports Hub; New Badminton Body Elected at Gachibowli Meeting

Hyderabad: The Telangana government is stepping up efforts to transform the state into a major sports hub in the country, said Minister and President of the Badminton Association of Telangana, Duddilla Sridhar Babu.

He was addressing the Annual General Body Meeting of the Badminton Association of Telangana held at the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy in Gachibowli.

The Minister emphasized that the government is giving top priority to sports development by creating modern infrastructure and working towards the establishment of a dedicated Sports University. He added that long-term strategies are being planned to provide better opportunities for young athletes across the state.

Speaking on the occasion, Pullela Gopichand, General Secretary of the association, expressed satisfaction over the achievements of Telangana’s badminton players at national and international levels. He highlighted the importance of discipline, dedication, and resilience in achieving success in sports.

During the meeting, the new Executive Committee of the Badminton Association of Telangana for the 2026–2030 term was elected unanimously. Duddilla Sridhar Babu was elected as President, while Pullela Gopichand will continue as General Secretary.

The newly elected Vice Presidents include Y. Upender Rao, V. Chamundeswara Nath, G. Venkata Rao, P. Ramesh Reddy, and Srinivas Uppala. Kanuri Vamsidhar was elected as Treasurer, while L. Ravi Kumar, P. Manoj Kumar, M. Jithender Reddy, and U.V.N. Babu were chosen as Joint Secretaries.

Lakshman Kosaraju was nominated as Advisor, and the Executive Members include P. Ram Mohan Rao, Thota Ranga Rao, K. Sreenivasa Rao, Pulluri Sudhakar, and Kolli Naga Veni.

The meeting also focused on strengthening sports infrastructure, expanding training facilities for young players, and organizing district-level tournaments. The association resolved to work collectively towards producing more national and international-level athletes from Telangana.
