CCTV Captures Brave Act in Hyderabad: Mohammed Zaher Thwarts Chain Snatching, Felicitated by CP VC Sajjanar

Auto driver Mohammed Zaher foils chain snatching by Mohammed Sohel in Begum Bazaar Hyderabad, accused arrested by Goshamahal Police, honoured by Commissioner VC Sajjanar.

Hyderabad: In a dramatic incident in Begum Bazaar Jinsi Chauraha area, an auto driver Mohammed Zaher foiled a chain snatching attempt by rowdy sheeter Mohammed Sohel by ramming his auto into the accused’s scooter and resisting his attack, leading to his arrest by Goshamahal Police. The incident occurred on March 4 early morning near Hindi Marwadi Vidyalaya School, and the accused has now been arrested with a case registered, officials confirmed.

Incident at Begum Bazaar Jinsi Chauraha

According to details shared by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar on his X handle, the incident took place on March 4 early morning at Begum Bazaar Jinsi Chauraha area.

Victim Smt. Manju Omlata was on a morning walk with her daughter-in-law when they reached Hindi Marwadi Vidyalaya School. At that moment, a rowdy sheeter identified as Mohammed Sohel, a resident of Dabirpura, attempted to snatch the gold chain from her neck.

During the attempt:

  • The accused’s scooter lost control and fell down
  • The victim raised an alarm

Auto Driver’s Brave Action Caught on CCTV

At the same time, auto driver Mohammed Zaher, who was passing by, noticed the incident through his side-view mirror.

Despite moving nearly 100 meters ahead, Zaher immediately reacted:

  • He turned his auto back at high speed
  • Rammed his auto into the accused’s bike while he was trying to escape
  • Knocked him down

Even when the accused attacked him with a stick, Zaher resisted fearlessly and stopped him.

These heroic moments were captured on CCTV cameras, which later helped police trace the auto driver.

Police Action and Arrest

While the accused was attempting to flee, patrolling police reached the spot and took the rowdy sheeter into custody.

  • A case was registered at Goshamahal Police Station
  • The accused Mohammed Sohel was arrested
  • He has 16 cases registered against him in various police stations

After stopping the accused, Mohammed Zaher left the spot without expecting any reward. Later, the victim informed Goshamahal Police about the auto driver’s bravery.

Using CCTV footage, police identified Zaher through the auto number with the help of technology.

Felicitation by Commissioner at Banjara Hills

For his extraordinary courage, Mohammed Zaher was specially honoured by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar at TGICCC office in Banjara Hills on Monday.

The Commissioner praised Zaher, stating:

“In a time when people ignore crimes happening before their eyes, Zaher risked his life to stop a rowdy sheeter. He is a true role model for society. There is a remarkable public police spirit in him. He did not expect any reward. Responsible citizens like him create fear among criminals.”

Zaher was presented with:

  • A cash reward
  • A certificate of appreciation

The Commissioner also appealed to citizens to act bravely during crimes and immediately inform police by dialing 100 or contacting local police.

The chain snatching attempt in Begum Bazaar Jinsi Chauraha was foiled by auto driver Mohammed Zaher, who courageously stopped rowdy sheeter Mohammed Sohel by hitting his scooter and resisting an attack. The accused has been arrested by Goshamahal Police with a case registered, and Zaher was later honoured by Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar for his bravery. The case remains under police action following the arrest.
