The swearing-in ceremony was held at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, where thousands of people gathered to witness the event. Yellow shawls, slogans, and celebrations were seen across the venue as supporters cheered for their favorite actor “Thalapathy” Vijay becoming Chief Minister.
Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi administered the oath to 51-year-old Vijay and his cabinet of nine ministers. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was also present during the ceremony.
Vijay Cabinet Includes Close Associates and Experienced Politicians
The cabinet formed by Joseph Vijay includes his close associates along with several experienced politicians.
A notable aspect of the ceremony was that all ministers took oath in the name of God, which was seen as different from the style followed by the previous government.
Chief Minister Vijay wore a white shirt, black pants, and a blazer instead of the traditional white dhoti. Several ministers were also seen wearing modern outfits.
Vijay Announces 200 Units Free Electricity and Women Safety Force
Immediately after taking oath, Joseph Vijay signed his first major decisions.
The announcements included:
- 200 units of free electricity for the public
- Special force for women’s safety
- Special anti-drug units
In his first speech as Chief Minister, Vijay said:
“From today, a new era is beginning. Our government will work on true secularism and social justice.”
He also thanked alliance parties including Congress, VCK, Indian Union Muslim League, and Left parties.
Vijay Credits Youth for Election Victory
Vijay specially mentioned youth and children during his speech and said young people convinced their parents to vote for his party.
Only two years after entering politics, Vijay succeeded in coming to power in his very first attempt.
He reportedly avoided large traditional public meetings and regular press conferences, instead using social media and public outreach to connect with young voters.
Political messages had also appeared in several of Vijay’s films for a long time, leading to discussions about his entry into politics.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy also congratulated Vijay and expressed hope that the new government would ensure welfare for the poor and justice for all.
Vijay Asked to Prove Majority by May 13
Despite the celebrations, Vijay still faces a major political test.
Governor R N Ravi directed him to prove his majority in the Assembly by May 13 to complete the constitutional process of government formation.
