ECI Launches SIR in Telangana, 16 States and 3 UTs; Door-to-Door Voter Verification from June

Election Commission of India launches Special Comprehensive Revision (SIR) process in Telangana, 16 states and 3 UTs. Over 3.94 lakh BLOs to verify 36.73 crore voters door-to-door.

The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced the rollout of the Special Comprehensive Revision (SIR) process in 16 states and three Union Territories, including Telangana, as part of Phase 3 of the voter list revision exercise.

More than 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door verification of 36.73 crore voters. The process in Telangana will begin with training from June 15 to June 24, while house visits by BLOs will take place from June 25 to July 24, 2026.

ECI Approves SIR Process in 16 States and 3 Union Territories

According to the announcement made in New Delhi, the Election Commission has given the green signal to implement the Special Comprehensive Revision (SIR) process in the remaining states of the country.

The exercise will be conducted in the following states and Union Territories:

  • Odisha
  • Mizoram
  • Sikkim
  • Manipur
  • Uttarakhand
  • Andhra Pradesh
  • Arunachal Pradesh
  • Haryana
  • Chandigarh
  • Telangana
  • Punjab
  • Karnataka
  • Meghalaya
  • Maharashtra
  • Jharkhand
  • Nagaland
  • Tripura
  • Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu

Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh Exempted

The Election Commission stated that Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have been exempted from the current schedule.

The Commission said the SIR schedule for these regions will be announced later after considering weather conditions, as these areas are affected by snowfall.

3.94 Lakh BLOs to Verify 36.73 Crore Voters

During Phase 3 of the exercise, more than 3 lakh 94 thousand Booth Level Officers will conduct house-to-house verification and correction of electoral rolls covering 36 crore 73 lakh voters across the country.

The Election Commission said the revision exercise is aimed at making voter lists more transparent and accurate.

Telangana SIR Schedule Announced

In Telangana, the training process for officials will be completed between June 15 and June 24, 2026.

Booth Level Officers will conduct door-to-door visits from June 25 to July 24, 2026.

The rationalisation of polling stations must be completed by July 24, 2026.

The draft electoral roll will be published on July 31, 2026.

Claims and objections can be submitted from July 31, 2026 to August 30, 2026.

The final electoral roll will be published on October 1, 2026.

Andhra Pradesh SIR Timeline

In Andhra Pradesh, staff training will be conducted from June 5 to June 14.

The draft voter list process will continue from July 21 to September 18, while the final electoral roll will be published on September 22.

The Election Commission stated that the third phase of the SIR exercise will conclude in Tripura on December 23.

ECI Appeals to Political Parties

The Election Commission appealed to all political parties to extend full cooperation during the Special Comprehensive Revision process to ensure that voter lists become more transparent and accurate.
