13 Women Complete Heavy Vehicle Training at TIDES Sircilla
The management invited applications from women employees interested in working as dumper operators in opencast mines.
Initially, around 35 women employees came forward for the opportunity.
Since operation of heavy dumpers requires both a regular driving licence and a Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) licence, Singareni arranged free heavy vehicle driving training at TIDES, Sircilla, at company expense.
A total of 13 women employees successfully completed the HMV training programme and informed the management of their readiness to work as dumper operators.
Officials said these women would be considered in the upcoming dumper operator recruitment process.
Massive 60-100 Tonne Dumpers Used in Opencast Mines
Singareni currently operates massive dumpers ranging from 60 tonnes to 100 tonnes capacity in its opencast mines.
These vehicles are used for transporting coal and overburden material from quarries to the surface.
Officials stated that for nearly five decades of opencast mining operations, only male employees handled these dumpers because the work requires:
- Driving skills
- Physical endurance
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
- Three-shift operations
Women Employees Gain Confidence During Training
Some of the trained women employees said they initially had apprehensions about operating such massive vehicles due to the physically demanding nature of the work and the technical skills required.
However, they said they gained confidence after successfully operating the dumpers during the training programme.
The women employees stated:
“Women today are excelling in every field — from space to mining.”
They thanked the Telangana Government and Singareni management for giving them the opportunity.
Women Already Working in Challenging Mining Roles
Officials stated that under the guidance of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, Singareni has consistently promoted women participation in different sectors.
The company pointed out that women employees are already working successfully in the blasting division at the Khairiguda Opencast Mine in Bellampalli.
Officials said women employees are performing on par with male workers in the challenging mining environment.
Singareni has also formed its first-ever women rescue team in the company’s history.
More Opportunities Planned for Women in Technical Sectors
Officials said the company will continue providing equal opportunities to women employees interested in taking up challenging technical and operational roles in the future.
The management expressed confidence that women would soon be seen operating heavy dumpers in large numbers across Singareni mines.
