Abhishek Banerjee seeks time from KMC to respond to demolition notice

Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee has sought time from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) to reply to the notice regarding the valuation of his property and the demolition of an illegal part of his house at Bhabanipur.

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee has sought time from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) to reply to the notice regarding the valuation of his property and the demolition of an illegal part of his house at Bhabanipur.

The KMC had recently issued the notice. The municipality officials also put up a notice on the wall of his house on Harish Mukherjee Road in south Kolkata’s Bhabanipur area.

On Sunday, it was learnt that the Trinamool General Secretary has written a letter to KMC asking for time on the matter.

The deadline given by the KMC is on Monday.

In the letter sent to the civic body by his lawyer, Banerjee has sought 10 days. Generally, in such cases, if time is requested, the municipality does grant an extension.

Last Monday, the KMC sent notices to Abhishek’s two addresses, Kalighat Road and Harish Mukherjee Road.

Questions were raised whether permission of the civic body was taken for any additional construction at his residences. The notice was sent to Abhishek Banerjee to reply to the queries before any action can be decided upon.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation also ordered the demolition of the illegal part of Santiniketan, the name of his residence on Harish Mukherjee Road. About 17 properties of Abhishek Banerjee are also under surveillance.

A few days ago, Abhishek left Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee’s house in Kalighat after a meeting. While getting into the car, journalists asked him questions one after another about the notice issued by the KMC. At first, Abhishek did not answer, but later he lowered the window and answered in a loud voice from inside.

He said, “Find out specifically which part of the house is illegal. Then ask me questions, and I will answer.” This led to a new discussion about Abhishek’s loss of temper while speaking to the media. However, the Trinamool MP from Diamond Harbour has now sent the letter seeking more time.
