Hyderabad Protest Against SIR: Congress, CPI and TJS Allege ‘Vote-Theft’ Activity by BJP and Election Commission

Congress, CPI and TJS held a protest rally in Hyderabad against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging a “vote-theft” activity by BJP and the Election Commission aimed at deleting genuine voters.

A joint protest rally was organized in Hyderabad by the Congress Party, Communist Party of India (CPI) and Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The parties alleged that the SIR electoral roll revision process was a “vote-theft” activity being carried out by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission (EC) with the intention of deleting genuine voters from the voter lists. The protest was held to oppose the ongoing electoral roll revision exercise and raise concerns about the alleged removal of legitimate voters.

Opposition Parties Allege Attempt to Delete Genuine Voters

During the protest, the coalition alleged that the election enumeration process was designed to remove genuine votes in the state.

The leaders alleged that the BJP government, in the name of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), was conspiring to take away the constitutional right to vote of the people.

They claimed that any effort to remove genuine voters from electoral rolls would weaken democratic principles and undermine citizens’ voting rights.

Congress, CPI and TJS Oppose Any Move Affecting Voting Rights

The leaders made it clear that the Congress Party and CPI would strongly oppose any action that weakens the right to vote, which they described as the foundation of the country’s democracy.

They stated that efforts to remove the poor, weaker sections, tribals, Dalits, and people belonging to lower castes from voter lists would amount to an attack on the democratic system.

Rally From BR Ambedkar Statue to BRK Bhavan

The protest rally began from the BR Ambedkar Statue on Tank Bund in Hyderabad and proceeded towards BRK Bhavan.

Leaders participating in the rally announced that they would submit a formal representation to the Election Commission (EC) seeking transparency in the electoral revision process and demanding measures to prevent what they termed as the unconstitutional removal of voters from electoral rolls.
