Hyderabad Metro Phase I Valuation and Phase II Funding: Telangana, Centre Appoint SBICAPS as Consultant

Telangana and the Centre have appointed SBICAPS to evaluate Hyderabad Metro Phase I, arrange financing, identify lenders, and study funding and expansion plans for Hyderabad Metro Phase II.

The Telangana Government and the Central Government have reached an agreement to appoint SBICAPS as a consultant to evaluate Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase I, secure loans for its acquisition, identify lending institutions, and study funding options for Hyderabad Metro Phase II.

The decision was taken following discussions involving Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Union Minister for Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Union Minister for Coal and Mines Kishan Reddy. The study and consultation process is now set to begin.

Revanth Reddy Discusses Metro Rail Issues with Union Ministers

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Manohar Lal Khattar and Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister informed the Union Ministers about the hurdles facing:

  • The takeover of Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase I
  • The launch of Hyderabad Metro Phase II

The discussions focused on finding a roadmap for the Metro Rail project and its future expansion.

Extensive Discussions Held on Monday Night

According to the release, on Monday night, Revanth Reddy held extensive discussions with:

  • Ashwini Vaishnaw
  • Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Coal and Mines

The discussions centered on Hyderabad Metro Rail and related infrastructure development plans.

Consensus Reached at Meeting Held at Khattar’s Residence

On Tuesday morning, the Chief Minister met Manohar Lal Khattar, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Kishan Reddy at Khattar’s residence.

During the meeting, both the Telangana Government and the Union Government reached a consensus and decided to appoint a consultant.

As a result, SBICAPS was selected to undertake the study.

SBICAPS to Study Metro Phase I Valuation and Phase II Expansion

The consultant, SBICAPS, has been assigned the responsibility of conducting a comprehensive study covering:

  • Valuation of Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase I
  • Expansion plans for Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase II
  • Construction expenses of Metro Phase II
  • Funding strategies for Metro Phase II
  • Identification of suitable lending institutions
  • Arranging necessary loans for acquisition

The consultant’s report will form the basis for future decisions by both governments.

Future Action Plan to Be Based on Consultant Report

The Telangana Government and the Centre will determine the future course of action after reviewing the report submitted by SBICAPS.

Officials stated that the consultant’s findings will help shape decisions regarding Metro Rail acquisition, expansion, funding, and implementation.

Senior Officials to Coordinate the Study

The Chief Minister and Union Ministers also agreed to appoint:

  • A senior official from the Union Government
  • The Special Chief Secretary of the State Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department

These two officials will act as representatives for coordination during the consultant’s study.

They will work together to ensure speedy completion of the study and related official processes.
