KIMS Hospitals launches sports orthopaedic clinic in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: KIMS Hospitals, Seethammadhara, has launched a dedicated Sports Orthopaedic Clinic in Visakhapatnam, becoming the first such specialised centre in Andhra Pradesh to offer comprehensive care for sports-related injuries.

The clinic was inaugurated on Friday by Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Dr. Shankha Batra Bagchi, who highlighted the growing need for specialised sports injury care as participation in sports and fitness activities continues to rise.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Bagchi said injuries sustained during sports and fitness activities can have long-term consequences if not treated promptly. He noted that the availability of advanced diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation services under one roof would significantly benefit athletes and fitness enthusiasts in the region.

Consultant Sports Orthopaedic Surgeon and Arthroscopy Specialist Dr. Srinivas Gollangi said the increasing popularity of activities such as box cricket, badminton, trekking, hiking, running, marathons, cycling and gym workouts has led to a rise in injuries involving the knees, shoulders, muscles and ligaments.

He explained that arthroscopic procedures have revolutionised the treatment of sports injuries by enabling minimally invasive surgeries, allowing faster recovery and rehabilitation. The newly launched clinic will provide end-to-end services, including diagnosis, treatment, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, through a single integrated facility.

Regional CEO of KIMS Hospitals, Seethammadhara, Dr. Nagesh said the hospital has been expanding its multi-speciality healthcare services in response to community needs and expressed confidence that the Sports Orthopaedic Clinic would become a key destination for specialised sports injury treatment in Andhra Pradesh.

Orthopaedic specialists Dr. Rajesh Kumar Reddy, Dr. Santosh Ram, Dr. Ramaraju, Dr. Vasanth Babu, Dr. Ashish Kumar, and hospital staff were also present at the inauguration.
