Hyderabad, June 29: Hyderabad Heroes emerged as champions of the Rugby Premier League (RPL) Season 2 after defeating Mumbai Dreamers 41-17 in a commanding final at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad.
The title clash showcased Hyderabad’s disciplined defence and clinical finishing as the home side outplayed Mumbai to lift the coveted trophy in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
Organised by GMR Sports in partnership with Rugby India, the second edition of the league concluded in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy, GMR Group Corporate Chairman Kiran Kumar Grandhi, actor Chiranjeevi, Olympic medallist P.V. Sindhu, actress Mrunal Thakur, GMR Airports Chairman G.B.S. Raju, and Rugby India President and League Commissioner Rahul Bose.

Mumbai Dreamers dominated possession during the early stages of the match but were unable to convert their chances into points as Hyderabad’s defence forced crucial turnovers. The Heroes capitalised through swift counter-attacks, with Francisco Cosculluela’s steal setting up Taitaifono Tavita before captain Manuel Moreno created an easy scoring opportunity for Shivam Shukla. Maurice Longbottom then added a drop goal to hand Hyderabad a comfortable advantage before halftime.
The Heroes continued their dominance after the break. Tavita once again created space on the left flank for Diego Ardao to score, while Mumbai responded through Ethan McFarland. However, Hyderabad maintained control, with Ardao adding his second score before Kevin Wekesa and Terio Tamani extended the lead. James Turner and Sukumar Hembrom scored late for Mumbai, but the Heroes comfortably closed out the match to secure the championship.
