Hyderabad: The Cyber Crime Police Station, Hyderabad City, arrested 36 cybercrime suspects across five states during June 2026 and facilitated the refund of Rs. 48.98 lakh to victims of online fraud. According to the department’s monthly report, 52 FIRs were registered based on complaints received through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). The arrests were made in 14 cybercrime cases involving investment fraud, social media fraud, job scams and matrimonial fraud. Police said investigations are continuing.

36 Cybercrime Suspects Arrested Across Five States
According to the monthly report released by the Cyber Crime Police Station, Hyderabad City, police arrested 36 accused during June 2026 in connection with 14 cybercrime cases.
The cases involved:
- Investment fraud
- Social media fraud
- Job scams
- Matrimonial fraud
A total of 52 FIRs were registered after complaints were received through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP).
Breakdown of Arrests and Refunds
Police said the arrested accused included:
- 22 involved in investment fraud.
- 5 involved in social media-related offences.
- 6 involved in matrimonial fraud.
- 3 involved in job fraud.
During the investigations, police recovered and refunded Rs. 48.98 lakh to victims of cyber fraud.
Hyderabad Resident Cheated of Rs 1.22 Crore in Trading Fraud
Among the major cases investigated was a trading fraud in which a Hyderabad resident was allegedly cheated of Rs. 1.22 crore.
According to police:
- The victim was lured into fake institutional stock market investments through WhatsApp.
- Four accused were arrested in the case.
Police seized:
- Mobile phones
- Debit cards
- Cheque books
- SIM cards
- Bank documents
Zonal Cyber Cells Register 287 FIRs
The Zonal Cyber Cells also reported significant action during June 2026.
According to the report:
- 2,288 NCRP complaints were processed.
- 287 FIRs were registered.
- 10 accused were arrested in nine cases.
- Refunds of more than Rs. 1.08 crore were facilitated.
Cyber Patrol Removes Fake Social Media Profiles
The Cyber Patrol Enforcement Unit intensified surveillance against illegal online activities.
Officials identified:
- 280 fake social media profiles
- 310 paid advertisements
The advertisements allegedly promoted:
- Illegal betting
- Fraudulent investment schemes
- Child exploitation
- Multi-level marketing scams
Police said all identified profiles were reported and subsequently removed from social media platforms.
958 Fraudulent Profiles Removed So Far
The department said cumulative cyber patrol operations have resulted in:
- Removal of 958 fraudulent social media profiles
- Removal of 2,517 illegal advertisements
- Registration of eight FIRs against promoters
C-MITRA Initiative Assists Victims
The Cyber Crime Police highlighted the work of the C-MITRA victim assistance initiative.
According to the report:
- 1,247 victims were contacted.
- 225 Zero FIRs were registered to ensure quicker legal action.
Police Issue Cyber Safety Advisory
The Cyber Crime Police urged citizens to remain alert against:
- Fake investment schemes
- Impersonation fraud
- Malicious APK files
- Phishing links
- WhatsApp profile cloning
- Matrimonial scams
- So-called “digital arrest” frauds
Police advised the public to:
- Invest only through SEBI-approved platforms.
- Avoid downloading suspicious files.
- Avoid clicking unknown links.
- Enable two-step verification on messaging applications.
- Verify the identity of anyone requesting money online.
Victims of cyber fraud were urged to immediately report incidents through:
- National Cybercrime Helpline: 1930
- National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal: www.cybercrime.gov.in
Police said prompt reporting increases the chances of freezing fraudulent transactions and recovering lost funds.
