Three Killed, Including Two Students, After Train Hits School Van in West Bengal

Kolkata: A tragic railway accident claimed the lives of three people, including two students, after a passenger train collided with a school van in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district on Friday morning. Several other students were injured in the incident.
The accident occurred at around 7:00 am at the Karnasubarna railway crossing near Berhampore, when the school van carrying students was attempting to cross the railway track. At the same time, the Nimtita-Katwa passenger train struck the vehicle, resulting in a devastating impact.
The school van was completely destroyed in the collision. Injured students were immediately shifted to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

According to eyewitnesses, the railway gate was opened after one train had passed through the crossing, but it was allegedly not closed again before another train approached on a different track, leading to the fatal accident.
The incident has raised questions over the role of the railway crossing staff on duty at the time of the accident. Senior police and railway officials rushed to the scene, and an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether any negligence was involved.
