Singareni Steps Up Coal Supply to Meet Telangana’s Rising Power Demand

Hyderabad: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti has directed officials to ensure the transportation of 28 to 32 coal rakes daily to thermal power stations to meet the rising electricity demand during the monsoon season.

Chairing a review meeting with Area General Managers via video conference from Singareni Bhavan on Friday, the CMD said there should be no shortage of coal supply to thermal power plants. He instructed all areas to maintain coal quality while ensuring uninterrupted dispatches in line with the requirements of power stations.

Reviewing coal production, dispatch, overburden removal and coal quality, Dr. Jyoti said continuous rainfall has affected output from some opencast mines. He directed officials to take all necessary precautionary measures to achieve production targets and implement special action plans to enhance output from underground mines during the monsoon.

The CMD said SCCL is giving top priority to Telangana’s power needs and is currently supplying 75–80 per cent of its coal production to thermal power stations to support the state’s electricity demand.

In view of possible flooding in Singareni areas along the Godavari River, he instructed SCCL rescue teams and officials to remain on high alert and coordinate with the local administration to provide immediate assistance whenever required.

Dr. Jyoti also directed officials to accelerate production across all opencast mines, achieve the financial year’s production targets, and fast-track statutory clearances for new mining projects to help SCCL achieve its long-term goals of 70 million tonnes of coal production and 500 million cubic metres of overburden removal.

The meeting was attended by SCCL Directors, senior corporate officials, Area General Managers, and heads of various departments.
