Youth Smuggles Ganja to Buy iPhone for Girlfriend’s Birthday, Couple Arrested in Khammam
In a bizarre case, a 21-year-old youth allegedly took to ganja smuggling to earn money to buy an iPhone as a birthday gift for his girlfriend. Police caught the couple while they were allegedly transporting ganja to Hyderabad for sale.

The accused were identified as Chaitanya (21), a native of Peddapalli, his friend, and Hemalatha (20). According to police, the accused couple allegedly purchased 12 kg of ganja for ₹16,000 in Pasupulanka, Odisha, and were transporting it on a two-wheeler to Hyderabad, where they planned to sell it for around ₹6 lakh.
The incident came to light when police were conducting vehicle checks at Vaira Cross Roads in Khammam district. On noticing the police, the accused allegedly attempted to flee without stopping. Police chased them and took the suspects into custody.
During the operation, police seized 12 kg of ganja, four mobile phones and the two-wheeler used for transportation.

During interrogation, Chaitanya reportedly told police that he had planned to sell the ganja and use the proceeds to purchase an iPhone as a birthday gift for his girlfriend.
Police also identified Bhagavan Hantal, who allegedly supplied the ganja to the accused, along with Shashi and Nagul, who were reportedly supposed to purchase the contraband from them in Hyderabad. The three are currently absconding, and police have launched efforts to trace and apprehend them.
A case has been registered against the accused, and further investigation is underway to uncover the wider network involved in the transportation and sale of the ganja.
