Rare Discovery: A Simple Doorstop Turns Out to Be a Priceless Amber Stone

A fascinating story has surfaced from a small village in Romania, where an elderly woman unknowingly used a rare and valuable stone as a doorstop for several years. The stone, later identified as a rare amber rumanite, is estimated to be worth millions.

An Ordinary Doorstop with an Extraordinary Value

In the European country of Romania, a woman from Colți village collected a large stone from a nearby river and placed it as a doorstop at her home. For years, she used it without realizing its true worth.

After her passing in 1991, one of her relatives noticed the unusual stone and decided to examine it further. To his shock, the stone was not an ordinary rock but a rare amber rumanite, weighing approximately 3.5 kg. The man later sold the stone to the Romanian government for a staggering $1.1 million (₹10 crore).

Scientific Examination Confirms the Value

After being sold to the Romanian government, the stone was sent for further examination to Kraków, Poland. Experts confirmed that the amber rumanite was between 38.5 to 70 million years old and one of the largest ever discovered in the world. Today, this valuable stone is displayed in a museum.

Burglars Missed the Priceless Treasure

Interestingly, the elderly woman’s house was robbed twice, with burglars stealing valuable gold jewelry and household items. However, the priceless amber stone remained unnoticed by them.

What is Amber Rumanite?

Amber rumanite is a fossilized tree resin that dates back millions of years. Over time, the resin hardens into a beautiful gemstone-like substance. These rare stones come in various shapes, colors, and sizes and are often used in jewelry and traditional medicine.
