The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified around 20 fake universities across India, most of which are based in Delhi.
Ahead of the upcoming academic year, the UGC is urging students to verify the legitimacy of universities before enrolling. Only institutions established under specific acts are authorized to confer degrees according to the UGC Act, 1956.
In a letter to the identified fake universities, the UGC expressed concern over the fraudulent issuance of degrees, emphasizing that degrees from such institutions hold no recognition or validity for higher education or employment.
