Hyderabad: In a significant pledge to rejuvenate the historic heart of Hyderabad, the District Congress Committee (DCC) has promised to lead a series of development initiatives in the Old City if they come to power in the upcoming elections.
Sameer Waliullah, President of Hyderabad DCC, announced in a media statement on Tuesday their dedicated efforts to revitalize the area through substantial financial investments and infrastructure improvements.
Under the Congress banner, Waliullah outlined a multifaceted strategy aimed at transforming the Old City. At the center of their vision is a proposal for a dedicated financial package of Rs. 5,000 to strengthen the Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority, not only with funds but also additional personnel and new projects. In line with their employment-centric agenda, the party intends to expand SETWIN’s training programs by increasing funding and staffing levels.
Recognizing the need for modern transportation, Congress is also committed to the opening of the Metro Rail in the Old City within one year. Enhancing the local business environment is another primary goal, with the party advocating for SEZ status to attract businesses to establish their offices, thereby creating a foundation for economic growth.
Sameer Waliullah stressed the significance of infrastructure and public services, pledging to establish a Passport Office, essential government departments, and a super-specialty hospital to address the healthcare needs of Old City residents. In a comprehensive anti-discrimination legislative effort, Congress intends to implement laws to prevent financial exclusion in the Old City.
Education is also a central focus of Congress’s restoration plan. Sameer Waliullah stated that the party would work to convince the High Command to establish an international school in Old City Hyderabad, ensuring access to world-class education for local children. He noted that the promise of an international school in every district, as outlined in the Six Guarantees unveiled by the Congress party, would be pursued for the Old City.
Additionally, healthcare infrastructure will be improved by upgrading Osmania General Hospital and other public hospitals while enhancing medical services for the community.
Sameer Waliullah emphasized that these proposals were developed through extensive consultations with various leaders, organizations, and stakeholders. They will be presented to TPCC President A Revanth Reddy to be refined into concrete guarantees.
