Hyderabad: Defying all the odds, conjoined twins passed the Telangana Intermediate examinations with first-class.
Inter 1st year and 2nd year were released by the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) on Tuesday. Veena and Vani, conjoined twins from Hyderabad were among the candidates were who passed the examination with first-class marks.
Veena and Vani’s parents had left them in the state’s care because they could not afford their medical expenses. They have been in the care of Telangana’s women and child welfare department since then. Currently, they are 19 years old. They thanked the state education department for allowing them to write the examination even though they could have done it only together and not in isolation.
The twins refused the privileges including additional time to write the examinations, though they were eligible for that.
Since their childhood, efforts have been made to separate the twins surgically. However, several teams of surgeons had deemed the surgical separation risky.
Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy & Women and Child Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod congratulated Veena and Vani on their success.
