Dhupguri Bypoll: BJP Nominates Widow of Pulwama Attack Martyr | Tapasi Roy
BJP's have nominated Tapasi Roy, the widow of a CRPF jawan martyred in the Pulwama attack, as a candidate in the Dhupguri bypoll, West Bengal.
Kolkata: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has chosen to field Tapasi Roy as their candidate for the upcoming Dhupguri Assembly bypoll in West Bengal. The significance of this nomination lies in the fact that Tapasi Roy is the widow of Jagannath Roy, a brave CRPF jawan who tragically lost his life in a terrorist attack in Kashmir.
Martyr Jagannath Roy, laid down his life in the line of duty, having been injured in a terrorist attack on March 25, 2021, and succumbing to his injuries on March 29. His sacrifice echoes the sacrifices made by many brave soldiers in safeguarding the nation’s security.
Speaking to the press, Tapasi Roy expressed her surprise at being chosen as a candidate and her strong commitment to her new role. She stated, “My husband gave his life for the country, and I want to dedicate my life to Dhupguri and its people.” Her vision for the region includes transforming Dhupguri into a subdivision and establishing a hospital, alongside addressing the developmental needs of women and girl children. Her candidacy represents a commitment to both local development and the legacy of her late husband’s sacrifice.
She is set to face off against the Trinamool Congress’s Nirmal Chandra Roy, a professor at Dhupguri Girls College, and CPM candidate Ishwar Chandra Roy, a well-known folk artist with the backing of the Congress. The bypoll was necessitated by the unfortunate passing of BJP MLA Bishnu Pada Roy, who had won the seat in the 2021 Assembly polls.
The nomination of Tapasi Roy, the widow of a CRPF jawan who lost his life in the Pulwama attack, as the BJP candidate for the Dhupguri bypoll, has set the stage for a compelling political battle. Beyond the immediate political implications, her candidacy represents a potent blend of sacrifice, service, and commitment to the development of her constituency. As the bypoll approaches, all eyes are on Dhupguri to witness the unfolding of this chapter in West Bengal’s dynamic political narrative.
