DK Shivakumar Urges Telangana People to Show Gratitude to Sonia Gandhi

Shivakumar, who campaigned for Congress candidates in Tandur, Parigi and Vikarabad constituencies near Hyderabad, reminded that it was Sonia Gandhi's compassion for the people that led to the formation of Telangana.

Hyderabad: Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, D.K. Shivakumar, took to the stage on Saturday, appealing to the people of Telangana to express their gratitude to Sonia Gandhi for her pivotal role in the creation of Telangana state by bringing the Congress party to power in the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled for November 30.

Shivakumar, who campaigned for Congress candidates in Tandur, Parigi and Vikarabad constituencies near Hyderabad and addressed election rallies, reminded the crowd that it was Sonia Gandhi’s compassion for the people of the region that led to the formation of Telangana state.

He urged the residents to reciprocate by voting for the Congress in the upcoming elections, firmly believing that the party would secure a majority and assume power on December 9, enabling the implementation of the Congress’s six guaranteed commitments from December 10.

The Congress leader assured the crowd that the party would fulfill its electoral promises, highlighting the successful implementation of their commitments in Karnataka, where the party assumed power a few months ago.

Countering claims that the Congress failed to fulfill its promises in Karnataka, Shivakumar challenged Telangana Chief Minister KCR and his son KTR to visit Karnataka and witness firsthand how the Congress government was honoring its commitments. He even offered to arrange transportation for their visit.

Shivakumar, formerly the Power Minister in the Congress government under Siddaramaiah in Karnataka, recounted that during his tenure, power generation increased from 10,000 MW to 23,000 MW. He expressed the Congress’s commitment to providing seven hours of power to farmers in Telangana.

He questioned the crowd about KCR’s ability to meet his promises to the people over the last decade, implying that the Congress had a track record of delivering on its commitments.

In his campaign for Congress candidates in Tandur, Parigi, and Vikarabad constituencies near Hyderabad, Shivakumar noted that the Karnataka Congress government was delivering free electricity up to 200 units and providing Rs 2,000 per month to 1.10 crore women.

He emphasized that the promise of 10 kg of free rice and free RTC bus travel for women were being upheld. Moreover, farmers in Karnataka were receiving Rs 15,000 per acre as investment support under Rythu Bharosa, while senior citizens and widows were granted a monthly pension of Rs 4,000.

Revanth Reddy, President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), joined Shivakumar, alleging that KCR had failed to fulfill his promises to the people and accusing him of neglecting the state’s farmers by providing insufficient power supply.

He emphasized that it was under Congress rule that Hyderabad had witnessed significant development, including the sanctioning of the Outer Ring Road (ORR), which contributed to the city’s growth and recognition.
