Eik Bihari Sau Pe Bhari: Meet Russian legislator Abhay Singh

Patna:  Bihar-origin Russian legislator Abhay Singh claimed that the government and people of Ukraine are not behaving correctly with Indians in the country, especially with students.

Singh, who is a member of the ruling Yedinaya Rossiya (United Russia) party asserted that it is a kind of racial approach towards them. They are not allowing many students to board the trains and buses from their big cities like Kiev and Kharkiv. He also condoled the death of an Indian student in Kharkiv.

Singh is currently staying just 40 km away from the Ukrainian border in Russia’s Kursk province.

Abhay Kumar Singh hails from Patna, Bihar. He is a lawmaker in Kursk city assembly, the ancient city best known for the defeat of Adolf Hitler’s army in 1943. He won the provincial election on a United Russia party ticket as a deputat — parallel to an MLA in India.

Abhay’s father passed away when he was just 13 years old. A student of Loyola High School in Patna, Abhay Singh went to Kursk to study medicine in early 1990s. He practiced as a registered doctor following his return from Kursk after graduating from the Kursk State Medical University. But later he went back to Kursk and entered the pharmaceutical business.

Soon he became a well-known business personality in Kursk. He owns the Uralskiy Trade Centre, a mall located in Kursk. While trying his hands in the real estate sector, Abhay Singh involved himself with local affairs and engaged with local Russians. Gradually, he entered politics. Then he won a provincial election on a United Russia party ticket becoming the deputat of Kursk city assembly.
