Former Maharashtra Minister Baba Siddique quits Congress

Snapping his 48-year-old ties with the Congress, former Maharashtra Minister Baba Siddique on Thursday announced his resignation from the party.

Mumbai: Snapping his 48-year-old ties with the Congress, former Maharashtra Minister Baba Siddique on Thursday announced his resignation from the party.

Taking to his official account on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Siddique said, “I joined the Indian National Congress party as a young teenager, and it has been a significant journey lasting 48 years. Today I resign from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party with immediate effect.”

Siddique did not specify any reason for his decision.

“There’s a lot I would have liked to express but as they say some things are better left unsaid. I thank everyone who has been a part of this journey,” he said.

Siddique has so far not indicated which party he will join after quitting the Congress.

His son Zishan Siddique is a Congress legislator from Vandre West Assembly Constituency in the city suburb.

It may be recalled that last month former Union Minister Milind Deora had also resigned from the Congress and joined Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
