Hyderabad: Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra virtually laid the foundation stone for the new GST Bhawan and residential quarters in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
The project, undertaken by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), is the third-largest infrastructure initiative in monetary terms, with an estimated cost of Rs 645 crore, a statement said here on Tuesday night.
The New GST Bhawan, covering a built-up area of approximately 77,000 sq meters, will be located near Hitec City and house the CGST offices of Hyderabad, currently operating on rented premises.
The modern building, designed according to the GRIHA rating and green norms, is expected to accommodate around 1500 officers and staff, offering improved taxpayer services and enhanced employee welfare.
The project, to be executed by the CPWD in EPC mode over three years, includes a large GST Suvidha Kendra and a state-of-the-art auditorium. The residential tower, comprising 21 apartments, will have a built-up area of approximately 7900 square meters.
Speaking at the event, Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra praised CBIC for addressing the need for proper workspace and residential facilities.
He urged all institutions to expedite the execution of the building works for the timely availability of state-of-the-art facilities. Alok Shukla, Member (Admn), CBIC, expressed satisfaction with the project, thanking the Union Finance Minister and Revenue Secretary for their guidance and support.
Vivek Ranjan, Zonal Member, CBIC, highlighted the project’s features and requested that the Hyderabad Zone coordinate with CPWD for timely implementation.
Shri Sandeep Prakash, Chief Commissioner, CGST & Customs, Hyderabad Zone, expressed gratitude for government approvals and stated that the project is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2027.
In another event, Dr. Vivek Joshi, Secretary, DFS, Ministry of Finance, inaugurated the new office premises of the Pension Fund Regulatory Development Authority (PFRDA) at the World Trade Center (WTC), Nauroji Nagar, in New Delhi.
The modern and environmentally friendly building offers efficient use of water and sunlight, the statement added.
