Telangana Government to Procure Every Grain of Paddy at MSP, Uttam Kumar Reddy Warns Against Harassing Farmers

Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy assures procurement of every grain of paddy at MSP. Government plans to buy 85 lakh metric tonnes of paddy worth Rs 22,000 crore.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Telangana Government is committed to procuring every grain of paddy produced by farmers at Minimum Support Price (MSP) and warned of strict action against anyone troubling farmers during the procurement process. During a visit to a paddy procurement centre in Paleru of Khammam district, the Civil Supplies Minister reviewed the ground situation along with district officials and assured farmers that the government would purchase paddy till the last grain.

Uttam Kumar Reddy Visits Paddy Procurement Centre in Paleru

The Civil Supplies Minister visited the paddy procurement centre established in Paleru along with the District Collector and reviewed the ongoing procurement arrangements.

During the visit, officials reviewed:

  • Paddy procurement process
  • Minimum Support Price implementation
  • Transparency in weighing
  • Availability of gunny bags
  • Transportation of procured paddy to rice mills

The Minister personally interacted with farmers to understand the issues faced by them.

Orders Issued to Increase Lorries for Paddy Transportation

Officials were directed to increase the number of lorries to ensure immediate transportation of procured paddy to rice mills and avoid delays.

The Minister said that due to shortages of lorries and hamalis in some areas of the state, district collectors were instructed to temporarily use:

  • Other commercial lorries
  • DCM vehicles

for paddy transportation purposes.

Strict Action Against Illegal Weight Cuts and Extra Charges

Farmers informed the Minister that millers were deducting nearly 5 to 6 kilograms from paddy loads citing impurities and waste material.

Uttam Kumar Reddy ordered officials to take immediate action against such practices and even seize mills if necessary.

Farmers also complained that agencies supplying lorries were collecting an additional Rs 3 to Rs 5.

The Minister warned that legal action would be taken against those involved in such irregularities.

Officials were instructed to remain alert and immediately resolve any issue affecting farmers.

Review Meeting Held in Combined Khammam District

Later, a review meeting regarding paddy procurement in the combined Khammam district was conducted.

The meeting was attended by:

Minister Targets Opposition Over Farmer Issues

The Minister criticized the main opposition party for targeting a farmer-friendly government.

He alleged that during the previous government’s tenure, decisions regarding paddy procurement used to be delayed until the end of April.

Uttam Kumar Reddy further alleged that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government had a history of handcuffing farmers in Khammam, parading them on roads and sending them to jail.

He said the opposition should introspect about what it had done for farmers over the past ten years.

Telangana Produces Record Paddy in Country’s History

The Minister stated that unlike the previous government, the present government under A. Revanth Reddy is encouraging paddy cultivation by offering MSP along with bonus for fine varieties of paddy.

He claimed that Telangana has produced the highest quantity of paddy in the country’s history, surpassing even the undivided Andhra Pradesh era.

According to the Minister, minor difficulties have arisen in some places due to the massive production levels.

Officials were directed to speed up the procurement process and ensure farmers do not face inconvenience.

Government to Procure 85 Lakh Metric Tonnes of Paddy

The Minister assured farmers not to panic or believe what he described as anti-farmer opposition statements.

He said the Telangana Government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is planning to procure nearly 85 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during the Yasangi season with an expenditure of Rs 22,000 crore.

The Minister reiterated that the government is committed to procuring every grain of paddy at MSP.
