HMR MD NVS Reddy flags off e-auto rickshaws

He said they used to serve four lakh passengers every day before the imposition of lockdown and added that they were now able to serve only 2.7 lakh passengers.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail MD NVS Reddy today flagged off e-auto Rickshaws at the Parade grounds in the city. The auto Rickshaws have been launched for the convenience of the passengers of the metro rail.

Speaking to media persons on the occasion, NVS Reddy said the auto Rickshaw services would be offered in the name of Metro Ride and added that it would cost very less to the passengers to travel in the auto Rickshaws. He said the Metro Rail had sustained huge losses due to corona virus.

He said they used to serve four lakh passengers every day before the imposition of lockdown and added that they were now able to serve only 2.7 lakh passengers.

Referring to the comments of some people over the functioning of the metro rail, he said there was no such project like the Hyderabad metro rail in the entire world.

Reddy recalled that several people raised doubts over the completion of the project during its initial days and added that they were able to complete the project successfully and even after facing several challenges and problems.

He said they were now focusing on taking up the second phase of the metro rail project which would extend the metro rail services till Shamshabad airport and added that the project was likely to cost them ₹5,000 crore. He made it clear that anybody could come forward to become a part of the phase-2 of the project.

Commenting on the losses sustained by the project, NVS Reddy said they sustained loss of ₹3000 crore and added that the manager of the project L&T was managing it even after facing the financial losses.
