Hyderabad: 10 MBBS Students of Gandhi Medical College Suspended: Strict Warning issued to Medical Colleges
Hyderabad: On Monday, Dr. K Ramesh Reddy, the Director of Medical Education (DME), issued orders to suspend 10 senior MBBS students from Gandhi Medical College for one year due to their involvement in ragging. Dr. Reddy emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for such behavior and warned senior students across private and government medical colleges in Telangana about strict consequences for any involvement in ragging.
Despite prior warnings, some senior students engaged in ragging first-year students at the Hostel of Gandhi Medical College in Secunderabad. The UGC anti-ragging cell in New Delhi also filed a complaint prompting action.
In response to a series of suicides by first-year MBBS students nationwide, the National Medical Commission (NMC) issued a circular in June, urging timely responses to harassment and ragging complaints from first-year MBBS students and PG medics. The NMC noted a lack of prompt response to ragging complaints and non-compliance with the Prevention and Prohibition of Ragging in Medical Colleges and Institution Regulations of 2021. Medical students can file their complaints on the NMC website (nmc.org.in).
