Hyderabad Echoes with Prayers and Protests in Support of Palestine

Hyderabad: In mosques across Hyderabad, supplications were made, urging the end of the Israel-Hamas war and praying for the well-being of Palestine. Police increased vigilance on Friday. Meanwhile, in certain areas like Raj Bhavan Road, Israeli flags were placed on the ground, with some pedestrians walking over them.

Young men and women, carrying banners expressing solidarity with Palestine, gathered near the Ambedkar Statue close to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation headquarters at Tank Bund. Protesters held signs reading “Long Live Palestine” and “Gaza Will Never Die.” They were affiliated with the Disha Students Organisation and the Naujawan Bharat Sabha. However, shortly into their protest, police arrived and detained the protesters, subsequently taking them to the Saifabad Police Station.

Prayers in the mosques were followed by religious and socio-religious organizations like the Jamiat Ulama Telangana Andhra Pradesh, urging masjid managing committees to have khateebs elaborate on the significance of Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem during sermons. Such prayers were held in numerous mosques across the city, including the prominent Jama Masjid Darul Shifa. A congregational dua (supplication) was offered for the relief of the suffering in Palestine and for the residents of the besieged Gaza Strip.

In anticipation of protests, police heightened security near Charminar, especially given its proximity to the historic Makkah Masjid. However, witnesses on the scene reported that no such protest occurred.

Since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas conflict, netizens have been using social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), to share messages of solidarity with Palestine and to discuss the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
