Hyderabad: A first-year Intermediate student from a private college in Chaitanyapuri, city, took his own life on Tuesday, reportedly due to pressure from the faculty to improve his academic performance.
The 16-year-old was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan at his residence in Gowtham Nagar, Meerpet. Despite immediate efforts by family members to rush him to a local hospital around 8 am, doctors there pronounced him deceased.
In a suicide note he left behind, the teenager expressed that the college staff, including the principal and vice-principal, had been pressuring him to achieve higher grades. He admitted that he couldn’t cope with the stress any longer, apologized to his parents, and implored them not to enroll his younger brother in the same institution. He also expressed a wish that his brother would find a better college to attend.
Based on the letter and the family’s complaint, Meerpet Police have filed a case of abetment of suicide under Section 306 of the IPC against the principal and vice-principal of the college. Meerpet inspector K Kiran Kumar stated, “Family members have alleged that the college management bears responsibility for his suicide. We have registered a case against the individuals involved, and they will be summoned to appear before the investigating officer for statement recording.”
