Bengaluru: In a case of assault, six men barged into a hotel room in Hangal and assaulted an inter-faith couple. The incident was allegedly videographed by the attackers themselves.
The video purportedly depicts the accused standing outside the room knocking at the door, and waiting for it to open.
As soon as the door is opened, the accused persons move straight towards the woman who tries to cover her face with a veil, and one of them hits her and she falls on the floor.
They also assault the person present with the woman, and when he tries to escape, two to three accused catch hold of him and beat him up severely.
As the person is being beaten up, the woman hides herself in the corner of the bed. One of the accused slaps and drags her out of the corner. The accused are heard abusing the victims in filthy language.
Another purported video, which appears to be shot outside the lodge after the attack, shows the woman desperately attempting to cover her face but the men lift her hijab and film her.
Haveri SP Anshu Kumar said that the incident took place on January 7 at Nalhara Cross in Hanagal and added that the police would soon arrest the remaining accused who are locals and not associated with any organisation.
The accused have been booked for assault, kidnapping, outraging a woman’s modesty and attempt to murder, he said.
In another incident on Tuesday, seven men were arrested for assaulting two cousins in Belagavi after mistaking them for an inter-faith couple. “The accused relentlessly beat up the couple even after they said they were cousins,” police said.
