Languages are Crucial for the Unity: Indresh Kumar

Dr. Indresh Kumar stressed on the importance of purity of mind and character and expressed the hope that students coming out from MANUU will be the model of peace and development.

Hyderabad: Love is the essence of Indianness and Indian languages play a crucial role in the Unity of the country. We admire languages but unfortunately do not understand their message of love and Unity. Dr. Indresh Kumar, Defence Expert, today expressed these views while addressing a seminar as Chief Guest on “Role of Languages in the Unity of Bharat” at Maulana Azad National Urdu University. Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor, MANUU chaired the seminar. Prof. E. Suresh Kumar Member UGC and Vice-Chancellor, English and Foreign Languages University & Prof. B. J. Rao, Vice-Chancellor, University of Hyderabad and Prof. Shahid Akhter, Member National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions, Government of India. Were the guests of honour. UGC – Centre for Human Resource Development, MANUU organized the seminar.

Dr. Indresh Kumar stressed on the importance of purity of mind and character and expressed the hope that students coming out from MANUU will be the model of peace and development. He also described harmony and brotherhood as the only truth, we may have chosen different paths but our destination is common, he remarked.

Prof. Ainul Hasan in his address recommended that Urdu is the language of instruction of MANUU and there is no dearth of saviours of the language in the country. While tracing the origin of Urdu he recalled that it was earlier called “Rekhta” and it developed alongside Hindi as “Khadi Boli”. Prof. Hasan also announced the establishment of School of Foreign Languages at MANUU from next academic year onwards.

Prof. B. J. Rao, Vice-Chancellor University of Hyderabad in his speech described “Bharat” as a blessing for the Universe. Languages shall be used in preserving Unity of the country and subservience to foreign languages should be avoided, he opined.

Prof. E. Suresh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, EFLU and member UGC in his address spoke about mobile app developed by his University which helps in the English pronunciation through Bharti style. We don’t need to imitate others, language doesn’t have owners it only has users. Home language & School language should be the same, he suggested. He also advised students to master more languages.

Prof. Shahid Akhter, Member NCMEI, GoI in his address described Urdu as a language of Unity and culture. India is a land which assimilates may cultures & languages, he pointed out.

Earlier, Prof. P. Fazal Rahman, Convenor and Director HRDC in his welcome address proposed to establish the departments of Sanskrit & Telugu at MANUU to reflect the pluralistic nature of Urdu language.

Dr. Bonthu Kotaiah, Asst. Professor and Coordinator of the seminar proposed vote of thanks. Dr. Shakeel Ahmad, Asst. Professor Islamic Studies conducted the proceedings. Seminar was attended by large number of students, research scholars, faculty & staff members and eminent personalities from Hyderabad.
