Lovlina Borgohain, Preeti Pawar Head India’s Challenge at Usti nad Labem Grand Prix in Czechia

The Indian contingent features several of the country’s top-ranked boxers across key Commonwealth Games weight categories. New Delhi: Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain and reigning Asian Championships gold medallist Preeti Pawar will spearhead India’s campaign at the prestigious Grand Prix Usti nad Labem boxing tournament in Czechia, scheduled to be held from June 17 to 21.

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) on Monday announced a 12-member squad for the European invitational event, which forms a crucial part of India’s preparations for the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026 and other major international competitions.

The Indian contingent features several of the country’s top-ranked boxers across key Commonwealth Games weight categories. The tournament is expected to provide valuable international exposure and an opportunity to test combinations against strong global competition in a highly competitive European environment.

One of Europe’s oldest and most respected boxing tournaments, the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem has been a prominent fixture on the international boxing calendar for over five decades. This year’s edition will be conducted as a European Boxing Gold Tournament under World Boxing regulations and will feature contests across 10 men’s and 10 women’s weight categories.

BFI President Ajay Singh expressed confidence in the squad and highlighted the importance of international competition in the athletes’ development.

“The Grand Prix Usti nad Labem offers an excellent platform for our boxers to compete against world-class opposition. Such tournaments help athletes gain experience, build confidence, and prepare for major events ahead. We remain committed to providing quality international exposure to our boxers,” he said.

The women’s squad will be led by Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) and Preeti Pawar (54kg), alongside Sakshi (51kg), Priya (60kg), and Parveen (65kg). However, World No. 1 Jaismine Lamboria and Arundhati Choudhary will miss the event as they continue their recovery from injuries.

The men’s team includes Jadumani Singh (55kg), Sachin Siwach (60kg), Aditya Pratap (65kg), Sumit (70kg), Ankush (80kg), Kapil Pokhariya (90kg), and Narender (+90kg).

BFI officials said the tournament is part of the federation’s ongoing efforts to provide Indian boxers with regular international exposure and competitive opportunities as preparations intensify for a busy global calendar in the lead-up to Glasgow 2026.
