Midday Meal workers stage protest in AP

Midday Meal Scheme workers, owing allegiance to CITU, staged dharna in front of the DEO's office here on Monday, raising slogans in support of their demands, especially the enhancement of the minimum wage to Rs. 10,000.

Kakinada: Midday Meal Scheme workers, owing allegiance to CITU, staged dharna in front of the DEO’s office here on Monday, raising slogans in support of their demands, especially the enhancement of the minimum wage to Rs. 10,000.

AP Midday Meal Scheme workers union district president Subbulakshmi and CITU district joint secretary Chandramalla Padma have led the dharna.

They denounced the Chief Minister, Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, for going back on his election promise of enhancing their minimum wage to Rs. 10,000.

Later, they called on the Regional Joint Director of School Education in a delegation and presented a memorandum listing out their demands, including the enhancement of the minimum wage to Rs. 10,000, the hike of menu charges to Rs. 20, putting an end to the harassment from political leaders, and the payment of wages on the 5th of every month, besides providing for job safety.

Union leaders Karaku Subbulakshmi, Pakruti Varalakshmi, Marisetti Manga, Kadiyala Lakshmi, and Devudamma addressed the demonstrators.
