Hyderabad: Missed the October 7 deadline to deposit or exchange Rs 2000 banknotes at regular bank branches? Don’t worry! You still have a chance to ensure your Rs 2000 notes don’t become mere souvenirs. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) maintains 19 designated Issue Offices nationwide where you can deposit or exchange these banknotes. According to the RBI’s FAQs, this service will remain open “until further advice.”
Keep in mind, it’s not a straightforward process. The exchange or credit of these notes will adhere to relevant RBI/Government regulations. You’ll need to provide valid identity documentation and undergo other due diligence as specified by the RBI. Individuals can exchange Rs 2000 banknotes up to a cumulative amount of Rs 20,000 at a time. If you can’t visit an RBI Issue Office in person, you can send the Rs 2000 notes via India Post to any of the 19 designated RBI Issue Offices for crediting to your Indian bank account.
Before making your way, it’s recommended to confirm the address of the nearest RBI Issue Office to you.
