Muslims perform last rites of Hindu neighbour in Kashmir

Kupwara: Muslims in a huge number came forward to help perform the last rites of their 75-year-old Hindu neighbour at Lalpora Lolab area.

The Muslim locals took it upon themselves to help perform the last rites of their Hindu neighbour Rita Kumari, a Kashmiri Hindu, who had died of natural death on Sunday late night. Her last rites were performed on Monday afternoon.

The local Muslims mourned her death as one of their own and shouldered her coffin and arranged wood for her cremation in the village.

According to Greater Kashmir, the locals of the area termed her very sympathetic towards humanity. It quoted one of her Muslim neighbours as saying, “She was such a generous lady with a great intellect. She has never talked ill of anyone, be it Muslims or Hindus.”

According to locals she was a widow and her husband had died before nineties.
