The latest updates on the heavy rainfall forecast in Telangana. IMD Hyderabad issues a yellow alert for Adilabad, Nizamabad, and nearby districts.

Hyderabad, Telangana: The weather forecast for Telangana has taken a turn as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad predicts heavy rains in the coming 24 hours. Amid these forecasts, the chief secretary of Telangana, A Santhi Kumari, has issued an alert to collectors, urging them to be prepared for the impending weather changes. The state is poised to witness significant rainfall, particularly in isolated areas, creating the need for proactive measures and vigilance.

As the city of Hyderabad experienced cloudy skies throughout the day, the precipitation levels remained relatively light. Quthbullapur recorded 4.8 mm of rain, Alwal received 4.3 mm, and Trimulgherry reported 4 mm of rainfall. These intermittent showers were attributed to a low-pressure system originating in the Bay of Bengal, according to the IMD. This system is expected to gradually shift its focus towards the regions of Odisha and Chhattisgarh. The coming days are likely to witness further spells of light to moderate rainfall at isolated locations.

IMD’s Yellow Alert

In response to the impending heavy rainfall, the IMD issued a yellow alert for specific districts, signaling the potential for intense downpours and consequential effects. The districts on high alert include Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, and Peddapalli. These regions need to remain cautious and prepared for the unpredictable weather patterns. Additionally, Hyderabad can anticipate light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers during this period.

Chief secretary Santhi Kumari alerted Collectors

The Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) revealed that Ghanpur in Jayashan Bhupalpally experienced the highest recorded rainfall in the state at 80.3 mm. Meanwhile, chief secretary A Santhi Kumari has taken proactive measures to ensure the readiness of collectors and district officials. Control rooms have been established in Collectorates to effectively monitor and respond to the situation.

Forecast for Hyderabad and Surrounding Areas

The IMD Hyderabad’s forecast for the upcoming days predicts a series of weather phenomena. While the state is under a yellow alert for August 19 due to the likelihood of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls, Hyderabad is expected to encounter light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers on Saturday. The city’s morning hours will bring about hazy weather conditions, contributing to a diverse climatic experience.

The TSDPS predicts that Telangana will experience a range of rainfall intensities in various locations, with isolated areas expecting heavy downpours. This pattern is projected to persist until August 21. The Nizamabad district took the lead in terms of rainfall, registering 107.8 mm during the previous day. In Hyderabad, the neighborhood of Shaikpet stood out with the highest recorded rainfall on Friday.

Excess Rainfall and Monsoon Observations

The ongoing monsoon season has brought substantial rainfall to Telangana, marking a departure from the norm. The average recorded rainfall in the state has reached 588.4 mm, exceeding the typical level of 489.6 mm. This discrepancy is most pronounced in Siddipet, with a deviation of 56 percent from the norm. Similarly, Hyderabad has experienced a higher-than-average rainfall of 450.1 mm compared to the usual 388.6 mm. Charminar in Hyderabad noted the most substantial variation, with a 40 percent deviation.

Telangana’s weather landscape is undergoing significant shifts, with heavy rains predicted for the next 24 hours. The IMD’s yellow alert for several districts emphasizes the importance of vigilance and preparedness, especially in regions like Adilabad and Nizamabad.
