Nikhat Zareen’s grand welcome at Shamshabad Airport
Clinching their maiden medals at the world’s biggest boxing tournament, Nikhat Zareen (52kg) became the country’s only fifth woman to win gold.
Hyderabad: World champion boxer Nikhat Zareen was accorded a grand welcome at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad here on Friday.
Ministers Srinivas Goud and Vemula Prashanth Reddy and Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) chairman A Venkateshwar Reddy welcomed Nikhat Zareen and congratulated her for winning the gold medal at the the 12th IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship held in Istanbul, Turkey.
Clinching their maiden medals at the world’s biggest boxing tournament, Nikhat Zareen (52kg) became the country’s only fifth woman to win gold while Manisha (57kg) and Parveen (63kg) bagged bronze medals at the event, concluded in Istanbul last week.
The officials also received other Telangana girls Esha Singh and Nizamabad football Guguloth Soumya at the airport. While Esha won three gold medals in team events in ISSF Junior World Cup in Germany, Soumya won the Indian Women’s League championship with Gokulam Kerala Women team. The three were received by the host of officials and were paraded on an open-top jeep from the airport. Later, Srinivas Goud felicitated all three athletes.
