Nupur Sharma’s effigy found hanging in a street in Karnataka’s Belagavi district

Amidst protests against former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in a TV debate, an effigy with Nupur Sharma’s photo was found hung in the middle of a street in Karnataka’s Belagavi district on Friday, June 10.

Local police removed the effigy.

Nupur Sharma’s comments on Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in May have sparked a massive global outrage. As many as 14 countries hit out at India over the comments.

Subsequently, Nupur Sharma was booked for hurting religious feelings. Besides her, FIRs were also filed against Naveen Jindal, Shadab Chauhan, Sab Naqvi, Maulana Mufti Nadeem, Abdur Rehman, Gulzar Ansari, and Anil Kumar Meena for making “controversial” statements

Incidents of clashes between two groups during the protests were also reported in UP’s Kanpur.
