Osmania University cancels 1200 PhDs
Similar exercise will be taken up next year to clear backlogs and release notification for new PhD seats.

Hyderabad: Osmania University, Hyderabad has cancelled over 1200 long-pending PhDs this year.
According to the vice-chancellor of the varsity, the decision was taken as only 1280 students have submitted their PhDs before the deadline. He further announced that a similar exercise will be taken up next year to clear backlogs and release notification for new PhD seats.
Vice-chancellor Prof D Ravinder who assumed office a year ago launched several initiatives and introduced major reforms during the press conference.
The Times of India quoted him as saying, “The deadline to complete the thesis was April 13, 2022. But, only 1280 students have submitted. The number of students who failed to avail the opportunity will be much higher than those who submitted.” He added that most of these research scholars have joined between 2009 and 2017.
He said that they will give time till June 2023, for those who joined in 2018, adding that if the candidate fails to submit his/her thesis before the deadline, his/her admission will be cancelled.
Making it clear that they are not going to implement National Education Policy to the fullest, he claimed that states which are implementing NEP, are facing issues.
