Over 400 students stare at uncertain future after GHMC declared Chanchalguda College unsafe
Hyderabad: Over 400 students are in a dilemma over their future as GHMC declared the Chanchalguda junior college building unfit for habitation two weeks ago.
Chanchalguda junior college runs in an over 70 years old building which has severe seepage issue leading to degeneration of the roof and walls. The situation has sparked fear among the faculty and students on campus.
Around 450-500 students have enrolled during the current year. Due to the incessant rains this monsoon, a makeshift tent was set up for the faculty for the last few days to do their administrative tasks. Last week the building was locked for two days following which the students were being adjusted in other rooms of an adjacent degree college.
According to a teacher, some students have also stopped coming to the college and sought transfer.
Meanwhile, former corporator Amjad Ullah Khan of Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) has alleged that every year GHMC sticks a notice and flees without making any effort to renovate or provide alternative. He claimed that he had brought the issue to the notice of the government when he was the corporator of the area, which had even sanctioned 7 crore for the renovation to the R&B department but the project was dropped after regime change.
Commenting upon the situation, Chawani corporator Salam Shahid said the works on a new degree college-cum-intermediate block have begun and would be completed in a year’s time. Times of India reported.
