In a major step to ease passport appointment delays in Telangana, the Regional Passport Office (RPO) Hyderabad, under the guidance of the Ministry of External Affairs, has announced a Passport Mela on May 9, 2026, offering 4,000 additional normal appointment slots across all 5 Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) under its jurisdiction. The initiative is aimed at reducing the current waiting time of 8–10 working days, and implementation is ongoing.

Passport Mela on May 9 to Reduce Waiting Time

According to the official press release:

  • A special drive in the form of Passport Mela will be held on May 9, 2026
  • 4,000 normal appointments will be made available
  • Slots will be distributed across all 5 PSKs under RPO Hyderabad

Officials stated that this move is designed to:

  • Meet rising demand for passport services
  • Reduce waiting time for applicants

The current waiting period for normal appointments stands at approximately 8–10 working days, which is expected to decrease after the mela.

Karimnagar PSK Capacity to Double from May 4

In a parallel move to enhance long-term capacity:

  • Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) Karimnagar will increase its daily appointment capacity from:
    • 220 to 400
  • Effective from: May 4, 2026

This expanded capacity will cover:

  • Normal services
  • Tatkaal services
  • Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) categories

It is noted that PSK Karimnagar was relocated and inaugurated in September 2025 and is now equipped to handle increased demand.

Growing Demand Across Telangana

The RPO Hyderabad currently:

  • Operates 5 PSKs and 14 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) across Telangana
  • Processes an average of 4,500 passport applications daily

This reflects the growing demand for passport services and the need for expanded infrastructure.
